East Asia has a unique charm and I always wanted to explore the magical feel of it. This time I'm so much looking forward to unfurl the Asia’s Best Kept Secret in my upcoming trip to Taiwan (Republic of China) in collaboration with Taiwan Tourism. Taiwan, located in the western Pacific Ocean off the South eastern coast of China has many a charms tucked into a small island. Right from the Chinese Temples to modern & buzzing cities, amazing shopping to traditional cuisine, High speed trains to modern technology, I'm going to experience most of it during my trip. Autumn months are the best time to visit Taiwan, so that goes well with my itinerary. My itinerary has been curated by Taiwan Tourism for 7 days and will take me through the Kaohsiung city, Yushan National Park, Taichung City, Yilan County and Taipei city. I'll be visiting some very interesting places of interest including a boat ride on Ai (love) river, FoGaung Shan Buddha Museum, Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, Fengjia Night Market, Sheng Yang Aquaculture Leisure Farm, Taipei 101 Tower, Jiufen Old Street Shopping District and many many more. Of course I'll be trying out some local cuisine. I'll posting my experience on my social media handles. Some key things planned for my trip
- Flights: Getting to Taiwan from India is possible through multiple airlines like Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, Malaysian Airlines and more, and the flying time is pretty convenient. So just go for the best rates and book yourself. You can fly into Taiwan through its capital Taipei in the North or through Kaohsiung in the South. It isn't too big an island so its best to enter through one gateway and exit from the other while you enjoy the travel from one part to the other visiting the major tourist spots as well as save on the travel costs. My itinerary flies me into Kaohsiung and gets me out of Taipei.
- Visa is required for all Indian nationals, while you can get an online authorization if you have a valid visa to major western countries. Check the visa requirements online on the official website of Taiwan Government.
- Travel insurance is always recommended. It gives me peace of mind when I travel so I've already purchased mine
- Hotels: Book early to get great deals on number of hotels and resorts throughout Taiwan. My itinerary has been planned in some of the well known hotels and resorts, so stay tuned to know more
- Electricity: Taiwan uses 110V/60Hz electricity, mostly all the camera, phone, laptop chargers should be able to take this, however just double check it. I'm packing a couple of universal adaptors as they always come in handy.
- Currency: Taiwan uses New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) and you should create a quick cheat sheet for easy currency conversion. I feel its best to carry some USD cash (if NTD is not available) along with multi currency cards given by various banks as they are safe and convenient.
- Connectivity: Nowadays, it is pretty essential to keep in touch with your social circles over the internet, specially for a person like me. Interestingly I was told about this website (http://i-wifii.com/index_en.php) which gives small mobile routers with unlimited internet access. These can be purchased online, collected and dropped at airport and various other locations in Taiwan and seem pretty affordable. Now that means I can be connected, make calls through VoIP and do much more without much botheration. I've already booked mine.
