Breakfast is the most important meal for me and I love to have a hearty filling breakfast which can sail me up to lunchtime without any need of mid-morning snacking.
This Honey Fig Bagel Sandwich solves the purpose just right.
I have been fortunate to have traveled to a lot to various countries and get to taste the variety of food that's special in different regions.
I got my first taste in Bagel in the US. Pronounced as Beigal, Begal is a polish bread that is shaped like a ring.
It is first boiled and then baked resulting in a dense chewy interior.
It became my staple breakfast while our stay in the service apartment where breakfast was provided and fresh out of the oven Bagel was on the menu almost every day.
Slightly toasted, topped with lettuce, scrambled eggs and a good drizzle of tomato sauce, these made my mornings happy for quite some days.
And then we moved back to India and couldn't find this bread very easily.
But now as more and more people are aware of the variety of bread available in the international markets and are willing to give them a try, a lot of good supermarkets have started to keep bagel on the shelf.
I got lucky to find some good ones at Godrej Nature's Basket yesterday and now for next few days, my breakfast is going to be Bagel sandwiches of all possible varieties :)
For today, I made a honey fig bagel sandwich which turned out quite delicious.
I lightly toasted the bagel and then topped them with sweetened cream cheese. You can also replace cream cheese with ricotta if you wish.
Top with fresh fig slices and drizzle some honey on top and Voila, your healthy breakfast is ready in under 5 minutes. Fancy right?
